Building a Results-Driven Digital Marketing Engine for a Nonprofit Mission

As the first Digital Marketing Manager for Special Olympics Northern California and Nevada, I had the opportunity to shape and lead the organization’s digital strategy from the ground up. I pioneered successful year-end giving and Giving Tuesday campaigns, launched the first high-performing fundraising initiative supporting athlete participation in the USA Games, and significantly grew Bike the Bridges & BrewFest into a marquee event by leveraging strategic digital marketing efforts.

I created and executed all email marketing campaigns, transforming digital engagement and fundraising performance. Through rigorous subject line testing, clean and accessible design, and compelling calls to action, I drove measurable increases in open rates, click-throughs, and donations. Most importantly, I used these campaigns to tell the powerful stories of Special Olympics athletes and their families—bringing heart and heroism to the forefront of every message and deepening the connection between the organization and its supporters.

I also revitalized the organization’s email newsletter. With a focus on clean design, digestible content, and strategic CTAs, I turned it into a dynamic communication tool that expanded its subscriber base and enhanced engagement. What’s New | Special Olympics Northern California became a key channel for delivering valuable updates and driving ongoing support for the mission and five years later, is still in use.
